Requisiti
- Windows Server 2019 o successivo, Windows 10 o successivo, Linux x64/arm64 (glibc) oppure Docker.
gateway users add admin --admin. - Indica i server consentiti nell'impostazione
Primo avvio dell'app
Come accedo?
SQL Studio o SQLStudio Light?
Support
Need help with SQL Studio or the SQL Studio gateway? Here are the answers to the most frequent questions.
traceId, if shown). We usually reply within two business days.Installing the SQL Studio gateway
SQL Studio does not connect to SQL Server directly: it goes through the SQL Studio gateway, a service you install on your own server and manage yourself. It is usually installed by an administrator, once for the whole organization.
Requirements
- Windows Server 2019 or later, Windows 10 or later, Linux x64/arm64 (glibc) or Docker.
- .NET 10 ASP.NET Core Runtime (not needed with the self-contained build or the Docker image).
- The gateway must reach your SQL Server instances (port 1433 or the configured one); your devices must reach the gateway's HTTPS port (8443 by default).
Getting started
- Install the gateway as a Windows service, a systemd service on Linux or a Docker container.
- Create the TLS certificate (or use one from your company CA):
gateway cert create --host <host-name> - Create the first user:
gateway users add admin --admin. Each colleague can have a personal account, with two-step verification if you like (gateway users totp <user> enable). - List the allowed servers in the
Gateway:AllowedServerssetting (for examplesql01,*.database.windows.net). - Open port 8443 in the gateway server's firewall.
- Note the certificate thumbprint with
gateway cert fingerprint: you will verify it in the app.
First launch of the app
How do I set up the gateway in the app?
At first launch Configure Gateway opens: enter a profile name and the gateway URL (https:// only, for example https://gateway.company.local:8443) and press Test Connection.
The app shows me a certificate thumbprint
This happens when the gateway uses a self-signed certificate or one issued by a private CA. Compare the thumbprint shown with the one printed by gateway cert fingerprint on the gateway server, character by character. Only if they match, turn on I have verified that the thumbprint matches the gateway's and press Trust and Continue. From then on the app accepts only that certificate.
The gateway certificate was renewed
The app will reject the new certificate until you verify it: use Verify Certificate... in the sign-in window to check and confirm the new thumbprint.
How do I sign in?
With the gateway user name and password provided by your administrator (they are not SQL Server accounts). If your account uses two-step verification, the Verification code (TOTP) field also appears. After 5 failed attempts the account is locked for 15 minutes.
Connecting to servers
How do I connect to a server?
After signing in to the gateway, Connect to Server opens. Enter the server name as the gateway reaches it (server, server, port or server\instance), choose the authentication and press Connect.
"Server … is not allowed by the gateway's list of authorized servers"
The gateway only accepts the servers set by your administrator. Ask to add the server to Gateway:AllowedServers, in the same form you use in the app.
Windows Authentication
It uses the identity of the account the gateway runs as, so it requires a gateway on Windows with the Gateway:AllowIntegratedSecurity setting turned on (it is off by default). It is not available in Linux containers.
Microsoft Entra MFA
The app shows a code and opens the Microsoft sign-in page. After you sign in, the token is sent to your gateway, which uses it to connect to the database.
The connection drops or I get "method not allowed"
If there is a proxy in front of the gateway (IIS, WAF), check that it does not block requests and update the gateway to the latest version.
Passwords and security
Where are passwords stored?
Only in your device Keychain, never on our servers (we don't have any). The gateway does not store SQL Server passwords: it keeps them in memory only for the lifetime of the connection. In the app options (General › Security) you can require Touch ID, Face ID or the device password and enable automatic locking after a period of inactivity.
Price
The SQL Studio app is free, with no in-app purchases and no account with us. The SQL Studio gateway, which it needs, is paid: you buy a perpetual license once for one server, with 5 users included; extra users are a yearly subscription. Prices and terms of sale are in the store. It is usually bought by the administrator, once for the whole organization.
SQL Studio or SQLStudio Light?
If you don't want to install a gateway, SQLStudio Light connects directly to your servers with the same interface. Windows Authentication, Microsoft Entra MFA, Always Encrypted, DACPAC/BACPAC packages and tasks that keep running after you close the app are available only in SQL Studio.
Language
The app follows the system language: Italian or English, English for any other language. To change it for SQL Studio only: on iPhone and iPad Settings › SQL Studio › Language; on Mac System Settings › General › Language & Region › Applications.
